What is perfection? Does it even exist or is it just a collective myth created to push humankind to the illusion of endless progress? Is it reachable or simply imaginary? Can we see it, touch it or feel it? Well, perfection may be a folk tale destined to fool humanity, however, perfection does exist. In fact, it is all around us. Implanted in nature. Pleasing our eyes and being a source of inspiration for modern architecture, art, and brands…

This perfection is modeled by The Golden Ratio, also known as the Divine proportion. It is the irrational number (1 + Square root of√5)/2, often denoted by the Greek letter ϕ or τ, which is approximately equal to 1.618. It’s a mathematical proportion defined by the following formula, more understood with this picture:

For once, we can observe mathematical concepts in the real world, not just in abstraction. The divine proportion can be found in plants, like the sunflower or spiral Aloe, in animals such as the Nautilus shell, in Art, of course, with Mona Lisa and the Vitruvian Man, and finally in Architecture for instance the great pyramid of Giza or the Parthenon. This proportion is also used in logos as Pepsi, Twitter, and even National Geographic. Surprisingly, the golden section is also present in the human body! (Ears, arms…)
So next time, to whoever tells you that perfection is unreachable, tell him that we’re from the start perfect creatures (or at least physically..., for the moment, the progress is never far).
Now, you know the common point between a pineapple, Donald Trump and Twitter!
In fact, we just have to keep our eyes wide open and our minds clear to certify that the golden ratio is everywhere, which is at the same time terrifying and mystic...
